Basically, the color of Platinum is silvery white, and has a high density generally. This metal doesn’t form oxides, and is non-reactive to nitric acid and HCI. What is more, Pt can resist very high temperatures without melting.
Hardness verse malleability
The hardness of the metal refers to its level of resistance to denting or scratching. On the other hand, malleability refers to the ease with which it can bend or change shape without breaking.
Generally speaking, Platinum tends to be harder than gold when compared in its purest form. However, when gold is mixed with other metals such as copper, silver or palladium, it becomes harder than Platinum.
Platinum may also be considered harder to shape because it’s more brittle than gold. Also, Platinum tends to be softer than gold, thus may not be a good choice for jewelers who exclusively make men’s’ rings.

Even though prices have relatively remained the same between the two precious metals, many people have noticed that platinum is still more expensive than gold. The following may be the reason why such price disparity is witnessed:

(c)Finally, unlike gold, platinum cannot be re-melted. Therefore, scraps have to be sent back to the refiner, and this can prove to be costly.
Durability and investment
Platinum doesn’t lose weight easily during its lifetime when it has to be subjected to polishing. But generally, both should last for generation if properly made.
In terms of investment, many people would choose gold because it’s widely traded as an asset compared to platinum. What this means is that gold will always have a ready market unlike platinum.
